One of the early slogans used by Colt (of Revolver fame) stated "God created men, Col. Colt made them equal." While a master stroke of marketing for sure, the ad has made me reconsider the stereotypical machismo associated with firearms. By erasing centuries worth of evolutionary dimorphism, firearms radically up-ended male / female relationships and power-dynamics, with an overall equalizing effect. However and simultaneously, in the years since, woman have been disproportionately harmed by gun-wielding partners and gun violence overall.
Admittedly, I've made no attempt approaching the question empirically, but I'm tempted to argue that if feminism is about promoting equality of the sexes and guns have an equalizing effect, wouldn't guns be by definition feminist?
"Feminism promotes equality, therefore anything that has an equalizing effect is feminist" does not seem like a logically sound statement.
