I completely respect all vegans, but at the end of the day, its a choice. Firstly, some religions wont allow everyone to be vegan. Even if everyone did go vegan, some people including me, need great amounts of protein to build muscle. i understand mushrooms and some other vegan choices have protein. but its not the same as eggs, chicken, beef, etc. My only reasoning with "everyone should be vegan" is being self sustainable. growing your own food. whether vegan or not.
You seem to think being vegan would be some positive alternative to eating animals. The fact though is that it would simply be another path leading to this same result (though perhaps of a more arguably indirect route). Let me put this another way: what do animals eat? Do they eat vegetables, maybe? Plant-grown foods? So hm if 7 billion+ people turn to sustain themselves solely on this type of consumption (which only an exceedingly small percentage of them presently do), would it be fair to say animals would be facing some competition? Would it be reasonable to guess the rates of starvation, not to mention of wildlife environments destroyed to grow crops, would increase? It seems to me we'd simply be offering animals a new flavor of death.
Allow me to acquaint you with a fact of life: resources have limits to their production. Every resource you use is at the expense of another living thing. And yes this even includes your dainty fucking perfume and vewy pwetty nail polish that you look so motherfucking fabulous in. So if you really want to help animals, you'll do them a dandy little favor and remove yourself from worldly existence. Unless perhaps you think you are as entitled to existence as they are. In which case you'll do whatever the **** you please. After all that's exactly what animals do. 🙂
the fact that you believe that one detached general and vague sentence outright settles an argument tells me you cant debate for shit.
how can u say "like all others" if my brand of retardation is "particular". the concept of something that is particular implies that it is conceptually separate from "all others". do u know how language works
i bring this inconsistency up cus i feel like it kind of represents the logical inconsistency of argument as a whole.
and just in case u missed this obvious fact here, clearing land for agriculture, whether "animal agrictulture", as u so peculiarly term it, or the actual definition for agriculture, is known to hurt animals for a plethora of reasons. So, if we did this on a larger scale, as is proposed here, it would mathematically speaking just cause a larger scale of animal endangerment.
but hey thanks for educating me in this discussion. You have taught me that a person can set up debate against even the most fundamental straightforward truths of a concept, breaking free of all those burdensome constraints known as logic and rational thought. this has been a most enlightening experience
We eat meat because we are at the top of the food chain. Imagine the consequences of all humans becoming vegans. Millions of people would go jobless, and the ecosystem which is at a delicate balance would collapse.
Yes, animal agriculture is immoral and has plenty of flaws. But eating meat is natural, we need meat to function at our best. Eating meat allowed our brains to evolve into what they are. Vegans are demonstrably less healthy that meat eaters. Animal lives matter, but not as much as a humans.
I am iffy on this one. Being vegan will DEFINITELY help your health and how you eat. Some research has linked vegan diets with lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and lower rates of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer. Going vegan is a great opportunity to learn more about nutrition and cooking, and improve your diet. Being a vegetarian can promote weight loss. Reduce your risk of heart disease by lowering cholesterol levels. Lower your chances of getting certain types of cancer, such as colon cancer. Meat does have sugar in it than most vegetables or fruits. Being healthy is the main goal to focus on the body and exercising as well. There have been cases of people dying from eating meat. Meat CAN have bacteria in it which can kill people. Veggies are a more safe and healthy food to eat with a lesser risk of dying. The sugars in vegetables are natural sugars that come from the ground and the glucose the plant produces which is good for your body. People have different preferences though. Some people might have opinions such as people following a vegan diet are at an increased risk of depression as their diets have a sharp decline in omega 3 fatty acids (no fish oil or fish consumption) and a rise in omega 6 (vegetable oils and nuts). They can include algae-based omega 3 sources in their diet, but they are costly and hard to find. Humans have the natural right to choose how they want to take care of their bodies and the way they want to eat. God wants us to take care of ourselves and make sure we are healthy but we have the God-given right to choose how we eat and how we want to shape our bodies and our future. There are other foods out there that have protein in them enough to make your body healthy. People could get tired of being vegan and eventually they might get sick from eating what they don't like anymore. People could have new viruses in their body which would be another problem AND another PANDEMIC to deal with Corona for example. This would take a little while to find a cure for a specific virus depending on what it is. I am fine with either one but take what I said in mind :). Good topic btw!
If you are vegan to help the environment, I'm sorry but you are kidding yourself if you think you are making a difference. Climate change is a HUGE issue that cannot be solved by a couple million people not eating particular foods. But it can be stopped with tighter legislation on big polluting companies, by moving to greener ways of production, by cutting military spending. The US military has a bigger carbon footprint than 60 countries COMBINED
@Mimi Brown i agree, the big companies causing greenhouse gas emissions are a very big problem. but acriculture is somewhere between 20-50% of the whole human caused climate change. being vegan actually cuts your carbon footprint so much and makes you feel that you are actually trying to do something, not just sitting there waiting for everyone else to do something. i bet, in a vegan world climate vhange wouldn’t be that big of a problem in a bout a hundred years.
i live in Montana and many people have to hunt to live. if there was total veganism people would starve all the farms (local farms not big company) would shut down so no food for tens of thousands of people, thousands of people out of a job. with no hunting gun markets crash (more lost jobs) and car crashes skyrocket due to to many dear. you cant live in many places because bears arnt being hunted and they have even more food (dear). housing markets crash due to dangers of living with so many dangerous wild animals. tell me we should not hunt. (this is western Montana not eastern)
@Ella Surakka God has said do not murder HUMANS. God was actually the first one to kill a animal in order to clothe Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden after they had partaken of the forbidden fruit. He put them on the earth for the human race to utilize as food, clothing, work animals, etc in order to help his plan go forth and to frankly keep the human race alive. I have also been taught to eat meat sparingly by my religion for as long as I can remember and to respect animals. I do not condone the inhumane treatment of animals, but you need to learn the difference between Animal Rights and Animal Welfare, because you keep mixing the two up. Animals are animals, not people. They do not have the same instincts or reasoning skills that the human race possesses. Considering this fact, there are managing techniques that are used in order to keep the other animals around them safe, even though it might not seem fair to the animal it happens too. Some examples consist of dehorning cattle, debeaking chickens, and farrowing crates for pigs. These techniques are used in order to keep the animal and the other animals around them safe. Now don't get me wrong, there are farms that treat their animals inhumanely and there are organizations and people who are trying to help them. One awesome example of this is a woman named Temple Grandin. She revolutionized the cattle industry by coming up with multiple techniques to help with humanely managing and slaughtering cattle and hogs which are used in thousands of farms in the country today.
@AIDAN SIVITS "They are not meant for wonderful magical lives it would be more cruel to provide them that then kill and eat it." good lord, you are one evil, lying guy.
i believe killing animals to eat is a part of nature, animals kill other animals to feed themselves and their families. its is cruel but thats reality. i believe i can eat the animal if its killed the way i want it to be. if you love animals and find it evil to kill a soul for your satisfaction you have the right to think so, but its not right to say everyone should be vegan because the term vegan was not created by nature or religion or science. its just an ideology and people who believe that ideology can be a part of it but not all people are the same.
i dont fully agree with you, if im from america i wouldnt eat meat there, because the ways people slaughter the animals is brutal and inhumane, the meet turns out bad and negative, although if its halal meat, than its ok to consume. if you dont know what halal meat is its the meat that muslims eat. the animal is slaughtered in the most human way possible, in the us they kill all the animals at the same time, the right and halal way to kill the animal is to seperate the animal that going to be killed from the others and blindfold them, this way the animals will not see, hear or even smell what is happening. they killing involves cutting the jugular vein, carotid artery and windpipe.the jugular vein, carotid artery and windpipe. Animals must be healthy at the time of slaughter and all blood is drained from the carcass. (by the way sorry if my english is not perfect)
@Dani Chemali Your english is good, i see your point here. But the main question is not how the animals live and die, it’s about the whole system being wrong. It doesn’t matter how ”humanely” you kill the animal, you’re still killing an innicent being for your satisfaction.
I don’t think they are. I believe that as humans we shouldn’t be using that power and intelligence to hurt other beings. Instead we should respect animals and not see them as objects who just happen to live in the same world as us.
I understand your point, but if it isn’t right, it’s not about freedom. You can’t freely rape anyone, kill anyone or sell anyone and these are things that we do to animals every second.
@AIDAN SIVITS the cows are artifically inseminated they take the bulls semen and put it inside the cows anus. there they reach with their hand to the vagina, which causes the animal pain. no it isn’t indeed ”rape”, but it is wrong and sexual for the animal.
I don't think everyone should be vegan. People need their own freedom. This isn't what people would want to live like, not because we don't respect animals, but because we already have a bunch of laws, and we don't need any more. You're right though, we kill animals and then it causes environmental issues. That's why there is about 73 million vegans in the world. You can be vegan if you want, but nobody will make you. You should have the freedom to choose.
I agree that being vegan is beneficial in a lot of ways, but eating in such restrictive ways is out of the question for a lot of people. Most people who live in poverty would not be able to afford a vegan diet.
I agree, there are a lot of issues with poverty, also when attached to veganism. But planting some beans, lentils and many other vegetables shouldn't be more expensive than a farm with animals which take up a lot of space. And the fact that you could wrote that comment means that you don't live in extreme poverty... so it's not your excuse for harming animals.
I never said I couldn't be vegan, but I am 15 years old so I don't have a lot of vegan options in my house as I don't really do the grocery shopping or meal planning. My family gets all of our meat from free range farms, there are a lot of benefits to eating meat and I'm not going to cut it out my my diet. I agree that most ways of harvesting meet are inhumane and should be stopped but I don't contribute to any of those industries.
I believe that the world should eventually become vegan because of 3 main reasons: health, the environment and animal rights. I'd be interested to hear your view, or could you be vegan or smth like that. :)
I’m actually vegan for animal reasons so i’d like to focus on that. Actually pigs and cows and many other animals are much smarter and more compassionate than dogs. We just see them as pets. And if we are comparing i’d like to ask a simple question to start: if you’d see a dog harassed at the street would you feel sad for them and maybe interfere?
i'm vegan for ethical reasons so i'd like to focus on that. Are you implying that cows don't have emotions, feelings or personalities? Actually pigs, cows and sheep are much more intelligent than cats or dogs. We just see them as pets for cultural reasons. And those 4 things you said that farm animals know, does that sound good for you?
@AIDAN SIVITS As someone who eats meat, and doesn't thing veganism is ideal- your second point (factory farming good for environment) is an outright lie. Please refrain from lying.

How would we feed 8 billion people?
Why do you believe this statement? Moral Reasons? Animal Cruelty? Environment? Explain

I want to debate, but you don't have a valid point as to why.

the main thing is that can you justify killing the animal. what’s your excuse? are your tastebuds worth more than someones life?
